Our Professional Cookery & Hospitality learners recently took part in two fantastic industry-focused sessions, gaining hands-on experience and valuable insights from hospitality professionals.
Cheese Education Workshop with Alumnus, Rory Larkin
The department welcomed Rory Larkin RNutr, Senior Development Chef at Lactalis UK & Ireland and a former Richmond upon Thames College student, for an engaging Cheese Education Workshop in the College restaurant, The View.
The workshop gave learners the opportunity to sample a wide range of cheeses while exploring the different flavours, textures and characteristics that make each variety unique.
Rory also shared his expert knowledge on how cheeses can be used creatively in professional kitchens and across a variety of dishes.
Putting their new knowledge into practice, learners took part in a fun cooking challenge, using the cheeses they had tasted to develop and create their own dishes.
The activity encouraged creativity, teamwork and practical culinary skills, while giving students a taste of the innovation required within the hospitality industry.
Hospitality Careers Insights from Hilton London Syon Park
Learners also had the pleasure of welcoming Paige Pearce, HR Manager, and Cameron Townend, Director of Operations, from Hilton London Syon Park.
During their visit, Paige and Cameron provided a fascinating insight into the day-to-day operations of a leading hotel, highlighting the variety of departments that work together to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
Learners discovered more about career pathways available within the sector, from food and beverage and front-of-house roles to management and leadership opportunities.
The session offered valuable industry knowledge and gave learners a greater understanding of the skills, experience and enthusiasm needed to build a successful career in hospitality.
