We've been proudly based in Twickenham since 1937 and in 2020 we took things to the next level with a state-of-the-art campus.

How to get to here

We're easy to reach via public transport, with Twickenham Station a 15 minute walk away, and bus routes from Hounslow, Hammersmith and Kingston 5-10 minutes away. 

If coming from Twickenham Station, cross the road at the traffic lights and turn right. At the next set of traffic lights, turn left onto Whitton Road. Follow the road to a large roundabout with Twickenham Rugby Stadium in front of you and turn left onto Chertsey Road (A316). As you follow the road, you will see the Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC) building on the left. Pass the building and turn left as if going towards Harlequins Stoop. Our facilities

Our redevelopment is now complete, bringing a brand-new Sports Centre and cutting-edge Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) Centre supported by £36.6m in funding from the Mayor of London.

Overall, our vibrant, spacious, and modern campus is one of the best in the sector, packed with amazing facilities, including:

• 160-Seater Theatre: complete with a live performance stage

  The new campus will help establish RuTC as a college for careers with an outstanding reputation for services to students and employers. It will bring together education, enterprise and the local community to deliver innovative curricula that utilise the latest technologies.

  The redevelopment of the whole site is a partnership between Richmond upon Thames College, Richmond upon Thames School, Harlequins, Clarendon School, Richmond Council and Achieving for Children.

• College History

  Richmond upon Thames College started in 1937, we are one of London's longest running colleges! We have been providing education and training to the local community and beyond, for over 85 years!   The early days

  With the rapid industrial development which took place in Middlesex between the two world wars, and the consequent increase in the demand for technical education, it became clear that more technical colleges were needed and between 1928 and 1939 seven new colleges were founded in the county of Middlesex and on 13th September 1937, Twickenham Technical College in Egerton Road opened its doors to hundreds of students.Between 1937 and 1972, ‘looking backward, looking forward’ was the adopted motto of the college. This motto reflected on the growth and achievements of the college during this period.In 1962, the college changed its name to Twickenham College of Technology and would become one of only three centres in the county of Middlesex to focus on advanced work in the field of engineering and in 1977 Twickenham College of Technology merged with local sixth form colleges to create Richmond upon Thames College. In 1993 all colleges in England were transferred from the control of local government to become self-governing statutory corporations.

  Today's college

  Today, Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC) is part of HRUC (Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge Colleges), merging in January 2023.  It is a college of general further and higher education providing education and training, including Apprenticeships, to 16-19 year olds and adults from across Richmond, London, Surrey and Berkshire. Offering a wide range of technical, academic and professional qualifications for the 16-19 year old and adult markets – it is a college for careers and business providing access to school leavers, adults and employers.

  2017 marked an important year in the history of Richmond upon Thames College. As the college layed the first foundations for a brand new building and started its new journey to becoming a major technical and professional hub for south and west London, with a reputation for academic excellence. In March 2020, the new college building was ready to open its doors and in February 2025 phase two of our incredible redevelopment is complete, bringing a brand-new Sports Centre and cutting-edge Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) Centre supported by £36.6m in funding from the Mayor of London.
