Students Celebrate Success on A Level Results Day

Thursday 18 August 2016

On Thursday 18 August, Richmond upon Thames College was pleased to report its A Level results for 2016. With 882 entries across 34 subjects these results represent achievement on a grand scale. We expect that around 550 students will be going on to university, one of the biggest cohorts from any single institution in the country, including Oxford, Cambridge and other Russell group universities and various medical schools.

The overall pass rate was 93% with 58% of students gaining A*-C grades. 33 AS and A Level subjects achieved a 100% pass rate and former students from Richmond borough secondary schools achieved 100% pass rates in 27 of their subjects.

Student, Rosie McKeown, aged 18 from Surbiton, has achieved outstanding results including an A* in French A Level, an A* in Spanish A Level and an A in English Literature A Level. Rosie has accepted her offer from Cambridge University to study Modern and Medieval Languages at St John’s College. Rosie stated “My results were a brilliant surprise and I’m very much looking forward to studying at Cambridge where I’ll be exploring my passion for languages. Richmond upon Thames College has been fantastic in supporting me during my studies and my French teacher was a particularly brilliant teacher!”

Other results already confirmed included those from the International Baccalaureate Diploma, where students achieved an outstanding 97% pass rate, well ahead of the global pass rate of 79%. For the second consecutive year there was a significant improvement in technical and professional courses for 16-18 year olds, with a pass rate of 96% for Level 3 programmes, an increase of 9% from last year.

Principal, Robin Ghurbhurun, commented, “As one of the largest providers of 16-18 programmes in London our 2016 results continue to place us as one of the top performing colleges. It is a credit to students, their families and staff that consistently good standards are achieved across our A level programmes with over 30 AS and A Level courses achieving 100% pass rates. I am delighted that for the second year running our professional vocational programmes have recorded significant improvements as the college continues its journey to become a technical and professional hub for west London with a reputation for academic excellence. I wish our departing students all the very best in achieving their ambitions as they head off to university or employment. We now look forward to building successful futures for our new students enrolling with us this September.”
