Spring term attendance competition winners announced

Friday 13 March 2015

On Thursday 12 March, students Jonathon Freire-Benites, Rochelle Simme Woode and Alex De Araujo were announced as the winners of the spring term attendance competition.

The dedicated students were presented with certificates and prizes by college Principal and CEO, Robin Ghurbhurun, at a special presentation event.

 1. Jonathon Freire-Benites – 100% attendance - £100.00 lovetoshop vouchers

"Jonathan Freire-Benites joined RUTC to begin his first year of A-Levels to study Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Coming from St Michael's Catholic College, he has shown himself to be hardworking student that exhibits a quiet academic tenacity and a delightfully dry sense of humour. In Tutorial he always contributes and, by virtue of his amiable nature, he can be relied upon to get the group motivated and engaged no matter the topic. He is a perceptive and knowledgeable individual particularly about many of the social issues we have discussed in Tutorials and shows a real appreciation and articulation for what goes on around him. His commitment is without doubt and he is incredibly deserving of the Attendance Award. His plans are to progress to higher education and his efforts at college are a testament to his ability to succeed."

2. Rochelle Simme Woode – 100% attendance - £75.00 lovetoshop vouchers

"Rochelle is a mature and measured student who has taken a thorough approach to her studies. She is a student that works hard for her grades and reaps the rewards of doing so. Recent feedback from teaching staff is very positive. She has received congratulations from Psychology and Sociology for her good attendance, meeting deadlines and her engagement in lessons. She is a kind and supportive person who willingly helps her peers. In addition to her academic studies, Rochelle takes part in the college netball team, which she thoroughly enjoys and would like to take further at university. Rochelle has chosen to read Psychology at university. Her decision is based on a genuine enjoyment of the subject at A level and additional reading outside of the A level syllabus. So far Rochelle has received offers to study Psychology at the following universities: City University, University of Greenwich, Queen Mary and Royal Holloway. Rochelle has been a valued member of the college community and she will continue to grow in confidence and flourish at university."

3. Alex De Araujo – 96.6% attendance - £50.00 lovetoshop vouchers

"Alex has been at RuTC since September 2012 when he started a Vocational Studies course in our Supported Learning department. He is a very calm and pleasant student who has progressed a long way since, due to his hard work and determination. He progressed on to level 1 Diploma, Introduction to Professional Cookery, which comprises of NVQs in both Food & Beverage Service and Food Preparation & Cooking. This year he is studying an NVQ 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking alongside his GCSEs in both Maths and English, which is a very heavy workload. Alex sets a wonderful example to his peers as Student Representative for his class. His attendance and punctuality have been consistently outstanding. His teachers agree that he is a very pleasant student to teach and are delighted that he has received this reward in recognition of his commitment to study by attending all lessons. He has a very positive attitude and a great sense of humour, getting on wells with peers and staff. Alex plans to continue studying at level 3 then progress on to university to study Culinary Arts. He is off to Barcelona on a college residential trip on Monday and is very much looking forward to this."
