The day long session saw students receive training from artistic director, Vicki Amedume, on both the aerial cocoon and aerial ring, allowing them to develop new performance techniques via a medium that uses circus skills as an expressive vehicle.
The master class was arranged by Richmond upon Thames College dance lecturer, Charlotte Woods. "The master class was a fantastic opportunity for our BTEC students to experience an exciting medium that combines dance, circus skills, choreography and fitness," said Ms Woods. "The students really enjoyed the sessions and much of what they learned can now be used in their future performances."
Ms Amedume, who trained as an aerialist at The French National Circus School in Châlons-en-Champagne, founded her company Upswing in 2004. Since then, her team of dancers have performed in touring productions, ceremonies and educational projects across the world.
