Since then he has progressed his career in a number of colleges including East Surrey, Carshalton and Lewisham before joining City College Norwich as Director of Innovation and then moving to Newcastle College as Deputy Principal in 2011.
As the new Principal of Richmond upon Thames College, he says, "my first priority is to consolidate and grow the considerable strengths of the college while working with staff to deliver outstanding quality and new provision."
"I'm looking forward to establishing RuTC as a college for careers with an outstanding reputation for services to learners and employers. RuTC will be synonymous with being a great place to learn, to work and to do business with."
"Professionally, I challenge others to think commercially, think creatively and to be ambitious for our learners. I adopt a relentless focus on detail, rigour and responsiveness to stakeholders to ensure that we do things right first time and do the right things for our learners and I want to ensure that RuTC follows this path in the future."
"I believe there is no greater reward than to see learners develop and apply their learning, and that to share knowledge, to be challenged through inquiry and to inspire and be inspired by the success of others is a privilege and should be cherished. "
Cathy Bird, Chair of Governors at Richmond upon Thames College, said, "I am delighted to welcome Robin as the new Principal of the college and that he joins RuTC at such an exciting and challenging time. Robin will be instrumental in taking the college forward into a new era and repositioning the organisation as a major player within the education and training sector. On behalf of the governing body and all the college staff, we wish him every success in his new role."
