Biomedical student takes 6th place at ESAA (English Schools Athletic Association) Championship Track and Field competition

Tuesday 2 August 2022

In July, Ruth Ann Otaruoh, Biomedical student at Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC) won 6th place at the ESAA Track and Field Championships for her Triple Jump performance.

Ruth began triple jumping in 2016, whilst she was still at secondary school, introduced to the sport by her primary school teacher, she soon fell in love with the sport and is currently ranked 5th in the UK Women’s U20’s Triple Jump category.

Soon after starting jumping, Ruth joined the Thames Vallery Harriers and quickly progressed to national competitions including county and South of England Championships, winning her first at the age of 14.

Ruth says “Sports has always been a part of my life and I enjoy it so much. Triple Jump is an event that can be hit or miss, it’s tricky and requires a lot of determination and training but I can’t get enough of it!

“I currently train 4-5 times a week with some of the countries top athletes. I am the youngest in my training group which sometimes has its negatives but overall, it pushes me to become a better athlete.”
