In support of the college’s chosen charity, Shooting Star Chase, the leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young adults, we were excited to actively participate again in their annual Christmas fundraising day this week.
On Wednesday 19 December, lunch in the refectory was accompanied by festive carol singing and a bake sale. Staff and students’ purchases of homemade goodies and cakes contributed to the charity’s fundraising day. In addition to the cakes, Shooting Star Chase’s little fingerprint mascots ‘Friendlies’ were available to buy in the form of pin badges, canvas tote bags, pens and more.
On Thursday 20 December, RuTC’s Students’ Union organised a raffle. Staff and students bought tickets to win various prizes including shopping vouchers, a 3 course lunch for two in RuTC’s restaurant Merits, a Merlin annual pass and many more. In total, the college raised over £300, which will benefit the charity.
Sharon Cousins, Assistant Principal Student Experience at RuTC, said: “’Shooting Star Chase’ is a very worthwhile charity which RuTC actively supports. We are delighted that the money students and staff raised will benefit such an important service to the local community.”
