Recently BTEC Level 3 IT and A Level Maths and Computer Science students at Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC) visited Barings Asset Management based in Liverpool Street, London, as part of a student mentoring programme organised by Barings’ Director and Global Head of Compliance, Rob Knight.
Students were taken to Barings’ conference room and attended several talks with key managers within the organisation. They were able to learn about asset management and how IT plays an integral role in the effective running of international organisations and how this links with project management topics related to their studies. Managers spoke to the students about their roles and experiences on the careers ladder. RuTC students were also given the opportunity to ask questions after every session.
Jay Towers, BTEC Level 3 IT Extended Diploma student, said, “It was great to hear from people at the top of the company and hear about their roles.”
Students who attended the trip are now looking into work experience with Barings. Sam Martin, BTEC Level 3 IT Diploma Student, added “I loved how professional the meeting was. The people I met were very friendly and interesting and it made me want to work experience at a prestigious city company.”
