RuTC Alumni Voted as Top 10 Future Leader

Wednesday 14 September 2016

Former Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC) student, George Imafidon, has been voted within the top 10 Future Leaders in an annual publication by Powerful Media, which profiles 100 of the UK’s most outstanding African and African Caribbean students and new graduates. George was excited to find he had been placed in 8th position in the publication, which will now appear in schools and colleges to inspire and empower other young people to take advantage of opportunities and create them if necessary.

George left RuTC in 2015 after studying A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics. He is now studying Mechanical Engineering at University College London and is the Co-Founder of Motivez, an exciting app which informs young people aged 16-24 about professional and social events happening across London. Future 100 reported that “the aim for the app is to act as a launch pad for the professional and personal development of young people. George’s role as both director and Head of Recruitment means he is tasked with finding passionate, talented and hardworking student volunteers to work on the project.”

The Future 100 Leaders launch was held at HSBC's headquarters in Canary Wharf (8 Canada Square), along with HSBC, Accenture and Oxford University as the main sponsors. The event involved a welcome and introduction from senior HSBC employees and Powerful Media, inspirational talks, an insight into working at HSBC, CV and skills workshops and finally the award ceremony.

George’s long-term goal is to become a world-class engineer as he aims to use his experience to set up a general engineering consultancy firm which will build products to improve people's livelihood and quality of life. As a Formula 1 fanatic, he is also considering working as an engineer in Formula 1.

Geroge commented, “RuTC was a great environment to develop an independent but also collaborative work ethic. I developed great relationships with students across the college which helped me to get a phenomenal experience and top grades. By no surprise, one of the students I worked closely with achieved the exact same marks as me in maths and physics. You certainly get out what you put in and RuTC provided the perfect environment for my work-life balance with my ventures”
