Cooking up a storm

Monday 10 February 2014

On February 7, Catering students Rosie Buckle, Freddie Davis and Ben Harris reached the regional heats of the Nestlè Toque D'or cookery competition, winning £500 worth of catering equipment for the College.

Held at Westminster Kingsway College, the heats saw Richmond College take on students from the host venue as well as South Thames College. Only 30 colleges from over 120 initial entries qualified for the five regional heats.

The team prepared two delicious dishes for the judges, starting with Gressingham duck with parsnip purée, duck jus and roasted potatoes, followed by a modern twist on an apple crumple with a sticky toffee tarte tatin accompanied by a Nestlé Docello Crème Brulée.

As well as winning catering equipment as a reward for qualifying for the heats, the students were also given the opportunity to enjoy work experience with Nestle Toque d'Or's industry partners including The Dorchester, Mosimann's and Tanner's Restaurants.
