On Saturday 22 January, Richmond upon Thames College’s (RuTC) first and second year Dance students performed at the annual IGNITE dance show held in the College’s new 160 seater auditorium.
Alongside RuTC’s own students, thirteen other local and diverse dance groups performed to a sold-out audience - Kdyoga Dance Studio and Procorda, Marble Hill Dance Studio, Kew Dance Arts, Shuffle Dance Company, Studio K, Boundless Arts Company, Kristi's Dance Academy, VIVA - The Combination Adult Dance Company, Shift Dance Company, The Jenny Thomas Jazzettes Camberley, Tiffin Dance Company, Dillon Dance Youth and finally, Centre Stage Dance and Drama.
Over the past nine years, IGNITE celebrates local dancers of all ages and abilities. The dancing styles this year varied as much as the dancers themselves, from contemporary to urban dance and upbeat jazz to tap dance. RuTC’s dance students inspired the audience with dancer’s donning boxing gloves and performing the dance ‘Born Ready.’
Charlotte Woods, RuTC Performing Arts teacher, said: “We really missed IGNITE last year, so we were determined to make this year's performance one of the best yet. It has always been a fabulous event and we are especially honoured to host it for the ninth year. It not only gives a range of dance groups and organisations the chance to perform in a fully equipped theatre, but also gives our RuTC Dance students the chance to network with other performing arts professionals too.”
