The fair, which is an annual event arranged by the college's careers staff, gave over 1000 students from Richmond upon Thames College and Richmond borough sixth forms the chance to talk directly to the visiting universities about the degree courses on offer and also provided essential information to help with their future career paths.
"Choosing the perfect university is an onerous task, but one which is made a little easier when the universities come to you," said John Rainford, Careers and Education Advisor at Richmond upon Thames College, "Students at Richmond upon Thames College had the opportunity to quiz university staff from over 80 different institutions on all things university related, from how many students to how much accommodation costs. The value of visiting universities before applying should not be underestimated, but travelling from London to Newcastle, Sunderland or Middlesbrough is not always possible, whereas today all their questions were answered by the visiting representatives."
Emma, an Advisor from the University of Oxford said, "I always love coming to Richmond upon Thames College. It's the students that really remind me of why I do what I do. I just ran into one of the students from the college who is going to be starting at Oriel College next year and I really hope he has a great time studying at the University of Oxford."
Staff from Norwich University of the Arts stated, "We've been really impressed with the type of questions the students have been asking - they are really interested in what opportunities are out there for them."
During the fair we asked some of our students for three things they think they need to get into their preferred university. We then asked the relevant university what three things are needed and compared the two answers. It was a great way to get students thinking about how they need to prepare themselves. Apply now to Richmond upon Thames College and come to our 2016 Higher Education Fair.
