In June, Richmond upon Thames College’s (RuTC) construction partner for the new campus, ISG, offered a careers workshop for students.
Since getting involved in the new campus project, ISG have not only made great progress on the Richmond Building, but have also been getting more involved with students. Recently, the construction company offered a CV and interview workshop. Training included writing an effective CV and holding mock interviews. ISG staff, including their Social Value Manager and Assistant Surveyor, used their professional experiences to prepare RuTC students for good first job applications and the start of their careers.
In addition to workshops, ISG also collaborates with RuTC and the Awarding Organisation WJEC to run the UK’s first Level 3 Applied Diploma in Professional Construction Practice (PCP) course. Through the course, students will be able to become familiar with the industry, understand key skills and gain transferable skills for entering a career in architecture, engineering, construction and many other areas. Paul Cossell, ISG’s CEO, said, “The PCP qualification is our response to engaging the brightest and most talented young people at an earlier age, with a Level 3 qualification that can sit alongside and complement existing STEM subjects. This is a real game-changer.”
