On Thursday 28 February, two of Richmond upon Thames College’s (RuTC) students were given the exciting opportunity to attend the London Assembly Environment Committee at City Hall and to meet the Chair of the Assembly. The two RuTC students, Hasti Rezvan and Arez Khan, were invited to this event because of their involvement in the enrichment programme My World My Home, established by Friends of the Earth and National Union of Students.
My World My Home is a prestigious leadership programme for young people and RuTC students have taken part since 2017. The enrichment programme aims to make significant environmental changes and students receive a Level 3 Award in Community Campaigning.
Hasti and Arez were amongst eleven other students from four colleges across London to visit the City Hall. The students had a brief tour of City Hall and observed the Environment Committee questioning Shirley Rodriguez, the Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy about various Mayoral environmental programmes. In addition, they had a meeting with Caroline Russell, Chair of the Assembly, where students asked questions and shared ideas for their projects.
