From Monday 15 October to Friday 19 October 2018, Colleges Week, which is part of the ‘Love our Colleges’ campaign, is taking place again. It is designed to highlight the brilliant work colleges do day in and day out and to raise awareness for the decrease in college funding. The ‘Love Our Colleges’ campaign is a partnership between Association of Colleges (AoC), National Union of Students (NUS), Association of College and School Leaders (ASCL), University and Colleges Union (UCU), Unison, GMB, TUC and National Education Union (NEU).
Whether it is through top-class technical education, basic skills or lifelong learning, colleges help people of all ages and backgrounds to make the most of their talents and ambitions. Rooted in local communities, they are crucial in driving social mobility and providing the skills to boost local and regional economies.
David Hughes, Chief Executive, Association of Colleges, said: “Every single day colleges like Richmond upon Thames College provide a world class education and transform the lives of millions of people. Colleges Week is an opportunity to celebrate the brilliant things that go on and a chance to showcase the brilliant staff that make it possible. It is simple, if we want a world-class education system then we need to properly invest in it.”
Leading up to Colleges Week, Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC) hosts an Open Event on Saturday 13 October, 10am-2pm and another one on Wednesday 17 October, 5-8pm. These events are the perfect opportunity for prospective students to get to know their teachers and other students, find out more about the courses at RuTC and get a feeling for the college’s environment. Additionally, our principal Robin Ghurbhurun will hold talks throughout these dates informing about the college’s excellent results and future plans, such as the completion of the new campus at the end of 2019.
Through these experiences, students, parents and the local community can get a sense of the important work colleges do and what big role they play in helping people of all ages and backgrounds to make the most of their talents and ambitions.
