Supporting your career with a Fabrication and Welding course at RuTC

Friday 1 September 2017

Camile Walters Wright is currently working as the Metal Fabrication Apprentice at the National Theatre and has recently completed the Level 2 Welding Skills course at Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC) to support his role. He joined the National Theatre in September 2016 with no prior welding skills and now helps to build the scenery that is needed for the plays.

Camile enrolled on the Fabrication and Welding Level 1 Intensive course at RuTC in May and progressed on to the Welding Skills Level 2 course in June. He commented “I was inspired to take this course and progress onto Level 2 because I knew it would equip me with the skills and knowledge I need to make me a better welder which will make me more employable in future and aid me in my job now.”

He continued “I have enjoyed learning about the different types of welding and how to set them up properly and safely.”

Kate John, Scenic Construction Project Co-ordinator at the National Theatre says “we were keen for Camile to undertake professional training at Richmond upon Thames College so that he gets taught the correct and most up-to-date welding methods and techniques, and most importantly, so that he has certification that he has been trained to industry standard.”

Camile will continue to build his skills at the National Theatre to support his future ambition of a career in welding.
