RuTC Makes Way for the New Education and Enterprise Campus

Monday 8 February 2016

Over the last 18 months, Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC), Clarendon School, Haymarket Media Group, Harlequins, Waldegrave School, Richmond Council and Achieving for Children have been working together to create an innovative Campus for the College site on Egerton Road in Twickenham.

The Campus will include new college buildings, a new secondary school, purpose-built accommodation for Clarendon Special Needs School and Haymarket’s new “tech hub” and digital media incubator. It will bring together education and enterprise, delivering innovative curricula that exploit the latest technologies. The Campus specialisms will be creative arts and media, digital technology, engineering and construction and sport. It will offer young people unparalleled opportunities to develop skills and pursue employment with successful global companies and other local businesses.

The planning permission for the building of the new Campus is still ongoing. However, permission to start the demolition work has been granted and builders have gone on site this week to commence the first stage. Over the next few weeks, five ‘blocks’ – including the music building, will be removed. Lessons that would have been held in the impacted buildings have been decanted elsewhere on the site.

Robin Ghurbhurun, CEO and Principal at RuTC, said: “I am delighted that we finally have put a ‘spade’ in the ground on this innovative and exciting project. The current college buildings are no longer fit for our 2020 vision for learning and skills development. This is the first phase of our development, and I am sure that over the next few years students, employers and the local community will be impressed by the fantastic new facilities that are built on the site.”

Subject to Planning Permission, the school building will be completed by September 2017 and the college building in Summer 2018. For more information on progress please visit the Richmond Education and Enterprise Campus website. Please note this press release was written by
