This course will develop and refine your skills through working on a broad range of creative projects across the following areas:
- Traditional art skills
- Concept art (for games/animation/VFX, etc)
- 2D and 3D animation
- 3D modelling and texturing
- Visual effects (compositing, set extension, in-camera VFX).
You will undertake 30 hours of work experience as part of the course in both years of study.
We offer students the opportunity to create visual content for organisations / employers as part of their work experience, where possible.
You will have access to computer rooms with a range of industry standard specialist software as well as art-studios for developing traditional art skills, essential for artist roles within games, animation, VFX industries.
In addition, students have access to cameras and the TV studio for animation and VFX project work, a motion-capture suit for animated performance capture, and facilities for In-Camera VFX.

Entry requirements
Minimum requirements are:
- 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) including English and Maths at grade 4
- OR Level 2 Diploma at Merit or Distinction in an appropriate subject with GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or Functional Skills equivalent
- AND a proven interest in: concept art, games art, CGI, animation, visual effects (VFX).
- 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) including English and Maths at grade 4

Who is the course for?
This course is designed for those interested in a career in the games, animation and VFX industries.
With this course you will begin developing the skills required to become a creative practitioner working in these industries, in roles such as:- 2D/3D Artist
- Technical Artist
- 3D Modeller
- 2D/3D Animator

Study methods
You will learn about your subject through practical projects, which will expand both your technical and creative skills.
You will be encouraged to develop your study skills including research, analysis and presentation of your creative thinking process.
You will be required to work independently and collaboratively on group projects. -
How is the course assessed?
Course assessment is solely based on coursework without exams.
The two-year course consists of 6 units consisting of theory and practical elements. All units must be passed to achieve the qualification. You will receive support and feedback on your progress regularly.
At the end of both the first and second year, students undertake a personal project, which is marked Pass, Merit or Distinction.
The full qualification, once completed, is equivalent to 3 A-Levels and therefore is a good stepping stone to university. -

Students engage with a range of enrichment activities including talks by guest speakers, trips to museums, galleries, film screenings. Students have the opportunity to submit their work to festivals and professional competitions as well as display their work to the public in external group exhibitions.

Where Next – Further Studies
For any career in creative media, it is recommended that you go into higher education to do a specialist degree or foundation degree. Throughout the course, you will produce a portfolio of work suitable for your aims, including degree applications.
Some students may want to pursue apprenticeships in the media industry. -
