Supported Learning

At Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC) we have a department dedicated to students with special educational needs. With specialist trained staff who are friendly and committed to providing high levels of support to each individual student.

Our aim is to prepare students for life outside of education and to help them to integrate into society, whether that is to travel or live independently, find employment or develop communication skills.

Students have the opportunity of working in our Apple Tree Café and snack shop and garden, as well as being a part of frequent fundraising activities for various charities including the College’s chosen charity, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.

Advantages of studying Supported Learning at RuTC:

  • Shortlisted for an Association of Colleges (AoC) Beacon Award in 2017
  • Specialist trained staff to fully support students
  • Small class sizes
  • An abundance of practical work experience
  • Opportunities to work with employers

Progression

Many of our students progress through the courses offered in our Supported Learning department. Some students will then progress into mainstream education and some will go into the workplace or will live independently. Progression routes are different for every student, our focus is to ensure that the progression needs of the student are met and that we can help them to transition from education smoothly.
