Applied Science Level 1

The BTEC Level 1 Introductory diploma in Applied Science is an ideal starting point for those who wish to pursue a career in Biomedical Physical, Forensic or Physical pathways. This course will give an overview of modern day Science and prepares learners for progression onto Level 2 Applied Science.

  • What will I study and learn?

    You will study four mandatory scientific units and six specialist units which include:

    • Being organised
    • Developing a personal progression plan
    • Working with others
    • Researching a topic
    • Practical actions to protect the environment
    • Investigating Crime Scene Evidence (yes you can learn what it is like to be a member of C.S.I)
    • Testing the properties of products
    • Measuring waves used in technology
    • Investigating variation in plants and animals
  • What skills will I need for the course?

    You should have an interst in Science. Good organisation and time keepining will be beneficial.

  • How is the course assessed?

    The majority of the course is assessed through coursework, a mixture of in class assignment projects and presentations with only the Functional Skills /GCSE Mathematics and English being assessed through a controlled exam. You will learn in dedicated classrooms and well equipped laboratories supported by specialist science technicians. You will also have to complete some independent work.

  • What formal entry requirements will I need?

    A high interest in Science with Entry Level 3 in Maths and English.

  • What are my progression options?

    After successful completion of the Level 1 course, you can progress to Level 2 Applied Science. Or a Level 2 course in Forensic or Medical Science.
