Foundation Learning & Skills for Life

This one year course focusses on preparing students for the world of work through volunteering and supported work opportunities.

Students will carry out individually tailored one day a week work experience where they will learn appropriate behaviour and skills for the workplace.

Examples of work experience include working as an assistant librarian or ICT technician’s assistant.

All students will do the following:

  • Functional Skills in English, ICT and Maths at the relevant level
  • Independent living skills including managing money, planning and going on trips, making a simple meal, sport, healthy eating
  • Work experience – up to 2 weeks work experience. Work experience can be near to home and our past students have worked for Tesco, British Heart Foundation charity shops and Marks and Spencer food hall
  • Working in the college's Supported Learning shop 'Serious Snacks'
  • Working in the college's Supported Learning vegetarian cafe, 'Apple Tree Cafe'
  • Working in the college's Supported Learning garden.
  • Entry requirements

    You should have an interest in the subject area you are applying for. There are no formal entry requirements but we will assess your level of English and maths to make sure you are working at Entry Level 3 or above. This is to ensure you are able to meet the course requirements.
