Foundation Learning & Skills for Life

You will have the chance to work in RuTC's Serious Snacks Shop, at Spelthorne Farm, run your own little flower enterprise in 'Stems 2 U', and tend to the college garden. You will also do basic skills, IT, art, cookery, health & wellbeing and community activities.

  • Who is the course for?

    This is a two year practical based course for young adults with severe learning disabilities aged 19-21 years.

  • Study methods

    Students are given opportunities to develop their social and work skills, as well as their literacy and numeracy in practical based subjects like cooking, shopping and gardening in the college's Supported Learning garden.

    Students will be encouraged to develop their independence and personal safety skills by choosing trips and travelling in the local community.

  • How is the course assessed?

    Staff will monitor your work by taking photos, write about what you are good at and they may video you. Your tutor will review your Personal Progress Tracker at regular intervals in Tutorial. During the year your parents/carers will receive reports on your progress and there will also be a Post 16 EHCP annual review.

    When you leave you will be given a record of achievement which will describe all the things you have achieved on the course.
