Through a variety of workshops, projects and formal lessons you will develop a wide range of technical skills in, and knowledge of, audio, visual and interactive media production. Other related topics will include narrative storytelling, product and market research, the audience, communication and presenting ideas, and career planning.

How is the course assessed?
This one year qualification consists of eight units. You will be given projects that are continually assessed throughout the course. In the first two terms, units 1-7 will introduce you to key topics and allow you to experiment and develop your skills. You will work both independently and in tema on different projects. In the third and final term, you will produce a self-directed project. The exhibition of this final project will be assessed and graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction. This will be your final course grade.

Although this is a full-time course, if you have not obtained a grade C/3 in GCSE English and/or Maths, you must take retake one/both of these.

What skills will I need for the course?
You will need to be an imaginative, inquisitive and enthusiastic person, with a genuine interest in the media in all its various forms. You will be learning technical skills as well as writing and research methods. This course is for individuals who are intrigued and inspired by the media and who wish to explore, develop and test their creativity.
You will be expected to be a good team worker as well as an independent learner.

What formal entry requirements will I need?
Minimum requirements - 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 including English and Maths at grade 3
OR
Level 1 Diploma at Pass in an appropriate subject with GCSE English and Maths at grade 3 or Functional Skills equivalent
AND
a proven interest in media.

What could the course lead to in higher education or careers?
This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding you will need to progress onto the UAL Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology or to employment in the media industry. You will gain an insight into the media industry and your potential career path.

Are there any costs involved?
At the start of the course, you will be required to pay a studio fee of £110. This applies to all students. It helps to pay for a 'starter pack' of resources that are essential for completing the work set. This includes a plastic folio, USB memory stick and card, drawing/art materials, presentation boards/materials and some general stationery. Also, this fee helps to pay for some occasional compulsory and optional educational trips/visits, which you may be expected to pay some travel fares and trip costs. From time to time, you will need to pay for other necessities like printing work out and photocopying etc.
