RuTC celebrated the initiative by nominating AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting student, Marie Armstrong, for the Outstanding Individual Learner Award.
Having worked in the bank for 30 years, it was a big step for Marie to suddenly leave work and start life as a college student, however, Marie now believes this was the best decision she has ever made.
In addition to working part-time and running a busy household, Marie has been a treasurer for the 7th Feltham Sea Scouts for around the last five years and her knowledge from her accounting qualifications has enabled her to switch from keeping manual paper accounts to using a computerized system to submit annual returns.
Marie is also using her new financial knowledge to provide accurate information to organisations who are assisting with the fundraising for a new hut for the 7th Feltham Sea Scouts.
As well as the above, Marie also spends a lot of her time working as a Parent Support Worker for Crohns and Colitis UK and sits on the Finance Committee for both St Marks Catholic School in Hounslow and St Lawrence’s Church in Feltham.
Garo Molozian, AAT teacher at RuTC commented “there are so many benefits of continuing to learn as an adult including picking up new skills and opening up new opportunities in your career."
"The Festival of Learning is a great way to celebrate the achievements of Adult Learners.”
