OCN Access to HE – Music 

This one-year course is ideal for those interested in a future career in Music Production. The OCN Access to HE courses at RuTC is designed specifically to meet the needs of adult learners in preparation for progression to higher education. This is a practical studio and online based course which will provide a thorough grounding in the fundamental principles of Music Technology practices. The skills you develop are relevant to careers in: Multimedia and Music Production; Sound Design; audio engineering in Radio and TV; You will have support to create a showreel and body of work for application to higher education and Music industry employment, with specialist assignment options.

Specialist pathways include, but are not limited to: -

Music and sound for Visual Media, this includes sound for film and video production.

Mixing and Mastering: this is practical and has contextual elements in the principles of mixing.

Audio recording techniques, Digital audio processing, Sampling and Synthesis: our music facilities are industry standard with purpose-built recording studios and programming rooms. As well as Logic Pro, we have Ableton, Waves, Sound Tools, Autotune, Melodyne and Native Instruments plug-ins.

Your study programme will develop your practical skills and creative thinking through a process of contextual research, discussion, exploration and experimentation, problem solving, review and analysis.

This is an intensive course with integrated academic skills to prepare you for higher education study including reading and understanding texts, note taking and essay writing.

You will receive tutorial support in the development of your personal work, showreel and website production and in the HE application process including UCAS.

There is a studio fee of £100 a year to pay upon enrolment that will help to subsidise the cost of the range of practical resources and trips that you will have available to use during the year.

Access to Higher Education programmes are designed for students who are aged 19 and over as of 31 August.
