Media

Through a variety of workshops, projects and formal lessons you will develop a wide range of technical skills in, and knowledge of, audio, visual and interactive media production. Other related topics will include narrative storytelling, product and market research, the audience, communication and presenting ideas, and career planning.

  • Entry requirements

    Minimum requirements are 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) including English and Maths at grade 3. OR Level 1 Diploma at Merit or Distinction in an appropriate subject with GCSE English and Maths at grade 3 or Functional Skills equivalent AND a proven interest in media.

  • Who is the course for?

    Designed for those interested in a career in creative media. With this course you will begin developing the skills required to become a creative practitioner working in the media industry, in roles such as director, screenwriter or camera operator.

  • Study methods

    You will learn about your subjects through practical projects, which will expand both your technical and creative skills. You will be encouraged to develop your study skills including research, analysis and presentation of your creative thinking process. You will have access to media studios and TV/Film studio but also classroom based activities and computer rooms.

  • How is the course assessed?

    This one year qualification consists of eight units. You will be given projects that are continually assessed throughout the course. In the first two terms, units 1-7 will introduce you to key topics and allow you to experiment and develop your skills. You will work both independently and in team on different projects. In the third and final term, you will produce a self-directed project. The exhibition of this final project will be assessed and graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction. This will be your final course grade.

  • Where Next – Job Opportunities

    Students can work on a broad range of creative roles in the media industry, for example production jobs like a runner, camera operator, sound recordist, editor, or director.

  • Where Next – Further Studies

    On achievement of a Merit or Distinction you will be considered to progress onto the UAL Level 3 Diploma / Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology with a focus on film and TV or animation and VFX.
