Creative Media Production (Moving Image) Level 3 Extended Diploma

The Level 3 UAL Creative Media Production and Technology course will provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to degree level study or to employment in media related fields.

  • What will I study and learn?

    Through a variety of workshops, projects and formal lessons you will gain a wide range of technical skills and knowledge. Subjects include; pre-production and research methods, visual production and technology, professional practice and entrepreneurial skills.

  • How is the course assessed?

    The UAL course consists od a total of 13 units. You will be given assignments that are continually assessed throughout the course. In year 1 you will study 8 units. Units 1-7 will allow you to experiement and develop your skills across a wide range of topics. You will work both independently and in teams on different assignments. You will develop research and pre-production skills, career planning, camera work, editing and production. Unit 8 is the Final Major Project and will allow you to produce a self-directed project. This final project will be assessed and graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction and will be your final grade for year 1.


    Year 2 units 9-13 will allow you to develop your skills further and in greater depth. You will be able to explore your chosen area of specialism and to develop as an independent professional learner. Unit 13 will be a self-directed project based on your chosen specialism and will allow you to explore your own individual expression and creativity. This unit will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and will be your final grade for the Extended Diploma.

  • What skills will I need for the course?

    You will need to be a creative, inquisitive and enthusiastic person with a genuine interest in creative media production and post-production in all its various forms. You will be learning technical skills as well as writing and research methods


    You will be expected to be a good team worker and to be an independent learner.


    You will be expected to own a DSLR camera and to have already taken steps towards being a film maker.

  • What formal entry requirements will I need?

    You will need:

    5 GCSEs (grades A*-C) including English and maths at grade 4.

    OR

    Level 2 Diploma at Distinction/Merit plus GCSE English and maths at grade 4.


    At interview you will need to bring examples of your creative work.

  • What could the course lead to in higher education or careers?

    This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding you will need to progress into Higher Education at Degree level or to employment in the media industry. You will gain an insight into the media industry and your potential career path.

  • Are there any costs involved?

    You will be expected to own a digital single lens reflex camera (DSLR) to allow you to photograph and video your assignments (you will be advised on this if you do not own one at the start of your course).


    To cover the cost of the various consumable materials there is a studio fee of £120.

    There will be occasional visits and optional field trips and you will be expected to pay your train fares and trip costs.
