Access to HE Diploma Health and Social Care

The Access to HE Diploma (Health and Social Care) offers adults a coherent, integrated and supported year of study through which they will gain the knowledge, awareness, skills and confidence necessary for successful undergraduate progression into Health & Social care.


The course aims to provide a balance of essential study skills with specialist subject knowledge to enable the students to be prepared for the academic and practical rigours of undergraduate study in Health and Social Care. It must however be noted that the Access to HE Diploma does not provide guaranteed entry to UK Higher Education Institutions.

  • How will you be taught?

    You will learn about your subjects in a variety of ways, including group work, independent research, taking part in discussions, visits, external speakers and live projects. You will expand both your technical and creative skills through practical projects and you will also be encouraged to develop your study skills, including research, analysis and presentation of your creative thinking process. You will have access to practical workshops and art studios as well as classroom-based activities and computer rooms.

  • How is the course assessed?

    The course is assessed through controlled assessments, coursework and assignments.

  • Skills and experience you will need for the course

    No practical experience is required for the course; however a personal interest in the subject and some basic reading around the subject would be useful to give you a better understanding of the Health science industry. 

  • Entry requirements

    You will need GCSE grade C/4 or above in English Language. Or a Level 2 Functional skills English qualification.

    Applicants with overseas qualifications will be invited for an assessment in English and Maths.

  • Progression options

    On successful completion of the course, students will be able to progress to university to study a relevant subject.
