Printmaking for Beginners

Ever wondered what printmaking was all about? During this course, you will experiment with an exciting range of media and will learn how to explore your own imagery with traditional techniques and methods. You will explore a range of printmaking techniques with options in mono-print, letterpress, Collagraph, dry point printing, Lino and Chine-colle’.


This course is suitable for anyone who would like to learn the basics of printmaking or for anyone looking to develop their printmaking practice further.

  • What will you study?

    A range of traditional printmaking techniques and methods such as mono-print, letterpress, collograph, dry point printing, lino and screen print. We'll work with you to establish your creative ideas and how to turn them into the perfect print.

  • How will you be taught?

    The course is mostly practical. It is encouraged to keep an investigative workbook of printmaking techniques.


    You will be based in specialist areas such as our art and design studios, print room and computer suites, if relevant. Teaching will take the form of practical demonstrations, individual and group workshop activities, presentations and discussions.

  • How is the course assessed?

    The teacher will record your progress and provide informal regular feedback throughout the course. At the end of your study you will be asked to self-assess your own progress and achievement against the expected achievements as outlined above.

  • Skills and experience you will need for the course

    No skills or experince are needed, just an interest in art and design.

  • Entry Requirements

  • Progression options

    The course is designed to help you understand the role of printmaking in art and design. The skills learned on the course and the work produced can help with the development of an art portfolio and provide a new dimension to your own existing creative practice or as a progression opportunity towards other part-time or full-time creative courses, including the Access to HE Diploma in Art and Design.

  • Costs

    tuition fees, loans and classroom costs - £264.00 for 6 weeks, includes basic materials and use of equipment in the workshop.
