The course consists of four main art and design projects and alongside these you will also study Functional Skills in English and follow a programme in personal and social development. You will learn about:
- Drawing and painting
- Ceramics
- Graphic design
- Print making
- Textiles
- Animation and 3D design
- Health and safety procedures
- The work of other artists, designers and crafts people.

Entry requirements
You should have an interest in the subject area you are applying for. There are no formal entry requirements but we will assess your level of English and maths to make sure you are working at Entry Level 3 or above. This is to ensure you are able to meet the course requirements.

Who is the course for?
This one year introductory learning course in art, design and media is for those students who wish to develop their creative work across a range of disciplines. With a view to progressing in art, design or media as a career path, leading on to further education at Level 2 and above.

Study methods
You will be taught in both a classroom-based environment, as well as in our subject specialist art studios and workshops, such as ceramics, 3D workshop, photographic studio and darkroom and printmaking workshop.

The course is continually assessed against units of study. Competence must be proved in all areas of study before the full award is granted.

Where Next – Further Studies
On gaining a Merit or Distinction at Level 1, you can progress onto specialist courses such as the UAL Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design or Media.
