Former RuTC Rugby Academy student played in the 2015 Rugby World Cup

A mere few yards away from where he trained as a teenager for the Richmond upon Thames College Rugby Academy, Joe Marler performed on the world stage, in front of thousands of hopeful England fans as the England Rugby Team compete in the Rugby World Cup. Joe was a student at RuTC and then went on to sign with the Harlequins Rugby Team as a prop shortly after. In 2009 he was called up to represent the England U20s in the Junior World Championships. We are extremely proud of him and were happy to #WearTheRose in support.

The Rugby Academy has a long history of developing aspiring rugby players and has affiliations with the Rugby Football Union. The Rugby Academy programme provides up to six hours coaching per week, including skill acquisition, strength and conditioning, tactics and techniques and competitions.

The Academy squads are entered for the AoC Sport leagues, cups and regional championships and the local London 7's Tournaments.

History of the Academy

Started in 1997, the Academy has gone from strength to strength, and in 2012-13 the team won the BCS London region providing qualifications for the BCS National Championships. The Academy works closely with the Rugby Football Union, and has been receiving support from their community coaches. The Academy is also currently developing exciting links with external rugby clubs that will further enhance their provision and will again this year be working with Richmond Rugby Club.

The Academy has been successful in regional and national competitions and developing players for the modern game.
