Business Administration Apprentice

publishing assistant apprenticeships in creative and digital media and business at Haymarket Media Group and Richmond upon Thames College in London

Craft a magazine

“Every day I am learning new things which give me a fantastic insight into the world of media and so far the most interesting thing for me to see has been seeing how different brands and departments work together to craft a magazine and digital platforms. I’m also building workplace skills as I go. For example, at the moment I am learning how to manage my work to become more efficient each day. This allows me to be on the top of my game.”

Edward chose an apprenticeship because: “there are so many opportunities that come alongside an apprenticeship. My job role allows me to experience sales, marketing and publishing first hand, which gives me a fantastic understanding of the industry I would like to continue working in. Despite the fact I could have gone to University, I am a strong believer in personal development through practical means and learning from colleagues and mentors around me. Ultimately by doing an apprenticeship I hope to become more conversant in the different areas of the media.”

Edward most enjoys: “different aspects of my apprenticeship. My job allows me to undertake many entertaining tasks that keep me busy on a day to day basis, whether it is being the point of contact of travel bookings for 100+ people, or liaising with managers over 9 departments I am never short of anything to do! And of course the opportunity to meet and work with lots of different people throughout different areas of the business is a very appealing aspect of the job for me.”

RuTC have supported Edward by: “being really helpful throughout my apprenticeship scheme. When I started they ensured that I settled in well and made everything very comfortable for me. We had a meeting which enabled me to understand fully what I was going to be doing before the whole process began which allowed me to be effective as possible from day one.”

Edward’s future plans include: “In an ideal world, I would love to stay at Haymarket. It has a great work ethic and the environment is a great one to work in. I would love to further my experience within media and be involved with exciting projects which would again help me advance in the future. Gaining an understanding of so many different departments within Haymarket during my apprenticeship will give me an invaluable head start for a career in media.”
