Travel and Tourism Level 1 Certificate/Diploma

This qualification affords employability in the industry and will give a background knowledge of the employment opportunities in the industry as well as the operations of tour operators and travel agents as well as basic world and UK geography. Students will learn how to prepare and present information about individual resorts, what customer service standards are expected in the industry and how to research informati0on about holidays in order to be able to sell them to customers. This course is studied alongside the Certificate in Introduction to the Aviation Industry.

  • What will I study and learn?

    You will study and learn a range of units covering a basic knowledge of the Travel & Tourism industry including world geography, UK geography, Customer Services, Tour Operations and Travel Agent procedures and practices.

  • How is the course assessed?

    The course is assessed mainly through written tasks, role plays and simple presentations. There are two multiple choice open book online examinations

  • What skills will I need for the course?

    You will need an interest in the travel and tourism industry.

  • What formal entry requirements will I need?

    You will need:

    GCSEs at E, F and G including English and Maths Points calculation (for A Levels only) The average points score for entry to an A Level programme will be calculated using your 8 best GCSEs OR 6 GCSEs plus 1 technical qualification (equivalent to a maximum of 2 GCSEs and 10 points). From 2017 English Language, English Literature and Mathematics GCSE will be graded numerically (1 – 9. Grade 5 = a good grade C, grade 6 = grade B and grade 7 = grade A).   • What could the course lead to in education or careers?

    This course leads on to the City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Travel & Tourism. The level 1 qualification itself would contribute toward employability in the industry. 

  • Are there any costs involved?

    The cost of residential field trips (optional) will be around £450 and day trips are around £30 (prices are for 2014).
