Travel and Tourism Level 3 Extended Diploma

When you study travel and tourism you will discover that it involves a lot more than working as cabin crew! Travel and tourism is a dynamic industry which accounts for almost 3 million jobs in the UK and provides work opportunities globally, in lots of different roles. Our course equips you with the skills that you need to be part of this fascinating industry and is the first step on your journey to an exciting career. By the end of the 2 years you will have a clearer idea as to whether you want to work for a tour operator, airline, hotel, travel agent or other travel related business.

STARTS IN SEPTEMBER

  • What will I study and learn?

    The units cover a wide range of subjects, including among others, worldwide travel destinations, special interest holidays, and holiday park host in your first year, with cruising, business travel and resort representatives being some of the units in your second. You will be expected to go on a UK residential trip, and visit a variety of attractions or tourist destinations.


    You will work as part of a team as well as individually. Research is an important part of the preparation for assessment and we have dedicated computer suites as well as resources such as atlases, guide books and brochures for use in our classrooms. Our simulated aircraft cabin and check-in desks provide a realistic environment in which to practise for assessments.

  • How is the course assessed?

    The course has a variety of assessment methods that should give opportunities for all different types of learners to succeed, for example:

    • role-plays
    • presentations
    • written reports
    • class tests
    • on-line multiple choice tests

    The work for each unit will be graded pass, merit or distinction.

  • What skills will I need for the course?

    You will need to be somebody who is interested in:

    • learning about the world and why people travel
    • developing excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
    • being a team player
    • moving on to a related career or higher education course
  • What formal entry requirements will I need?

    You will need:

    5 GCSEs (grades A*-C) including either maths or English at grade C with the other at grade D. These should not include a home language

    OR

    a level 2 diploma in a relevant subject at distinction/merit with GCSE English at a minimum grade C

  • What could the course lead to in higher education or careers?

    Students with an extended diploma in travel and tourism have access to a wide range of possible career and higher education opportunities. You learn a variety of transferable skills throughout the course. These include collecting, analysing and interpreting data, communicating your findings in different ways and identifying and developing links between different parts of the subject. These skills are in great demand and are recognised by employers, universities and colleges as being of value. You could use your qualification to go straight into employment, further training or university.

  • Are there any costs involved?

    You will be required to make a financial commitment of approximately £100 to cover a UK residential trip. An optional overseas trip will be offered at a cost of approximately £450. Day trips will cost about £30 each.
