Travel and Tourism Level 2

Hard work, energy and desire go hand in hand with travel and tourism. This course needs all that and more but your reward is an introduction to the fastest growing industry in the world. You will look at holiday destinations, the impact of tourism, customer service and many other topics.

 

The work set will need to be completed as an individual project, a group portfolio or class work- all supported by your teachers. During the course, you will have the opportunity to go on trips to Europe, such as Barcelona or Paris. If you want a career as a member of cabin crew, working at an airport, a holiday rep, a tour operator or travel agent then this is the place to start your exciting journey.

 

Airlines, event organisers, tourist attractions and hotels want young professionals with the right type of qualifications and the right attitude, which this course aims to provide. If you want to discover this world of opportunity, this is the course for you!

  • What will I study and learn?

    During the course of the year you will study at least 8 units and your journey will introduce you to the way travel agents work and how they plan and book customer holidays. You will discover some of the more exotic worldwide holiday destinations and what attracts tourists to them. The course will also cover the roles and responsibilities of holiday representatives in ensuring the customer's holiday is as problem-free as it can be.



    The travel and tourism industry is a service industry and customer service is an important part of what you will study. You will learn why this is so important to delivering the customer's 'dream holiday' and you will develop the skills required through role-play practice and assessments.



    You will work as part of a group and individually to complete your research and the course will also involve you going on visits and attending presentations from guest speakers.

  • How is the course assessed?

    There are two externally set, multiple choice, online tests included in the diploma course. The rest of the course is assessed internally through assignments that are designed to provide a variety of means of assessment including written reports, presentations, written tests and role-plays.

     

    For example, you may be assessed handling a problem at check-in, developing a promotional campaign for a new travel business or working out what the time is in Sydney when its 10am in London. A portfolio of work will be completed with each individual unit being assessed at pass, merit or distinction.

  • What skills will I need for the course?

    You will need to be interested in the travel and tourism industry. In addition the college needs to be satisfied that you are well motivated and that the level of your numeracy and communication skills will enable you to be successful on the course.

  • What formal entry requirements will I need?

    Minimum requirements - 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 including English and Maths at grade 3

    OR

    Level 1 Diploma at Pass and GCSE English and Maths at grade 3 or Functional Skills equivalent.

  • What are my progression options?

    Many of our students progress to the City and Guilds level 3 qualification provided they have gained a merit or distinction in their Level 2 course and appropriate grades at GCSE in English and Maths. There is also the option of going straight into employment with career paths in travel agencies, airline customer service, cabin crew, etc.

  • Are there any costs involved?

    The cost of compulsory trips will be £100, payable upon enrolment. Some students may be eligible for bursary funding to cover compulsory trip costs.
