Level 2 First Extended Diploma in IT

The Level 2 Cambridge Technicals in IT qualifications aim to develop your understanding and skills of the essentials of IT and cyber security. You will gain an insight into the IT sector as you, where applicable, investigate the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure on a global scale, and the importance of legal and security considerations. Designed in collaboration with industry experts, the qualifications focus on the requirements that today’s employers demand.


The course is designed for the students to go by one of two pathways, either the IT Technical Practitioner or the Digital Software Practitioner. The IT Technical practitioner is designed for those who wish to repair or cure faults with Computing hardware or systems. Units for this pathway include Building IT Systems and IT Hardware Installation and Upgrade. The Digital Software Practitioner is for those who wish to develop websites and software.

  • What will I study and learn?

    Both pathways include:

    1. Essentials for IT
    2. Essentials of Cybersecurity

    These are both assessed by exams.

    The IT Technical Practitioner Pathway also includes:

    • Supporting IT Functions
    • Creating a Computer Network
    • Using Emerging Technologies
    • IT Software Installation and Upgrade
    • IT Hardware Installation and Upgrade

    These are all assessed through coursework. 

     

    The Digital Software Practitioner pathway includes:

    • Participating in a Project
    • Using Emerging Technologies
    • Creating Programming solutions for Business
    • Creating Websites
    • Creating Mobile Applications for Business
    • Games Creation

    Theses are all assessed through coursework.

  • How is the course assessed?

    The course is assessed through coursework, there are no exams. 

  • What formal entry requirements will I need?

    Minimum requirements - 5 GCSEs at grade D/3 including English and Maths at grade 3.

  • Are there any costs involved?

    There are no costs involved.
