Plumbing Level 3

The Plumbing Level 3 course is intended for students who want to gain the skills and knowledge to enter the plumbing industry. A career in plumbing can lead to many different career paths, wages are good and there is always the opportunity to run your own business if you want to.

 

As a plumber you can choose to focus on a range of different areas including piped water systems for bathrooms and radiators, drainage and the gas industry to install central heating systems. The Plumbing Level 3 course with provide you with the knowledge and skills to start your career in this lucrative industry.

 

Before you start the Level 3 Plumbing course, you may need to start at Level 1 or Level 2.

 

All students (16-18 year olds and 19+) on level 3 vocational and technical programmes will study two qualifications over the duration of their two-year course. An example of this is BTEC students will study for a 90 credit qualification in the 1st year. Upon successful completion, they will be able to progress to the 2nd year and study a diploma/extended diploma qualification.

  • What will I study and learn?

    Level 3 is made up of 8 mandatory units:

    • Health and safety in building services engineering, understanding the fundamental principles and requirements of environmental technology systems
    • Complex cold water systems
    • Domestic hot water systems
    • Sanitation and drainage systems
    • Central heating systems
    • Domestic gas principles
    • Career awareness in building services engineering
  • How is the course assessed?

    The course is assessed on an ongoing basis through assignments, online multiple choice tests and portfolio and practical assignments.

  • What skills will I need for the course?

    You must have achieved a Level 2 plumbing qualification, either 6129 or 6035. You should also have an interest in this type of subject and enjoy working out practical problems.

  • What formal entry requirements will I need?

    Minimum requirements - Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing

    AND

    GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 and Science at grade 3 or Level 2 Functional Skills.

     

  • What could the course lead to in higher education or careers?

    Once you have successfully completed this course you can apply to become an apprentice.

    The industry offers great opportunities for those with the relevant qualifications and motivation to succeed.

  • Are there any costs involved?

    All students will have to provide appropriate personal protective equipment (flame retardant overalls and safety boots/shoes) at approximately £70. You will also need to buy a calculator and memory stick. A textbook is also required at an approximate cost of £30.

Plumbing Level 2 Diploma
  • Are you aged over 19?

    Students aged 19 or over on 31st August directly preceding their academic year may be required to pay tuition fees for that year of study. Advanced Learner Loans may be available for students studying at Level 3. If you are aged 19-23 as at 31 August and this is your first full Level 3 you may not have to pay fees.


    Students who are 19-24 years old with Education Health and Care Plans (EHCP) issued by the Local Authority are not required to pay course fees (ie tuition fees are free). Students will be required to provide a final copy of their EHCP provided by the LA as evidence.
