It's about good bricklaying. This entails the ability to master the art of spreading a mortar bed, dexterity in handling the bricks and the possession of a keen eye. A good understanding of basic principles and much practice is needed in order to produce work that is of a high standard, but which has also been carried out economically.
Bricklayers are a vital part of the construction industry. They are often involved in the early stages of construction and their work forms the foundations for other trades to work on.
Experienced bricklayers work to a drawing or specification under the direction of a line manager or supervisor. Some bricklayers become specialists and construct decorative brickwork or arches and others may become involved with restoration of old buildings which requires specialist techniques and the selection of materials which match those used for the original construction.
There is a shortage of well qualified bricklayers and they are much sought after in the construction industry.
This course will further develop the skills learnt on the Level 1 Diploma in Brickwork.
