Certificate in Progression Entry Level 3

This course has been designed to introduce you to a wide range of life and study techniques to give you the skills to enter the workplace or to progress to further study. You will work with your teacher on a series of projects that will improve your understanding of communication, group work, how to prepare for an interview and how to use email effectively.

  • What will I study and learn?

    This course is designed to encourage you to develop the personal skills and qualities you will need for employment and progressing to a L1 course. We will give you the practical experience that are used in a wide range of jobs and the knowledge of how to move onto the next step whether it’s in the workplace or to a higher level course.

    The course is made up of a number of units as listed below;

    The core units are:

    - Developing skills for gaining employment
    - Preparation for a recruitment interview
    - College Induction

    The other units are:

    - Discover local history- IT Users fundamentals
    - Using email
    - Using mobile IT devices

    The coursework is varied and includes written reports, presentations, preparation of displays and observation of tasks. All lessons take place in well-equipped IT suites where you will be able to work at your own PC to learn new skills and complete the practical work.

  • How is the course assessed?

    The course is 100% practical and written coursework, which will be set and assessed by your teacher.

  • What skills will I need for the course?

    You will have to be prepared to develop your time management skills so that you can complete assignments and meet deadlines. You will need to have some research skills but you do not need to have any computer skills before you start. The college needs to be satisfied that you are keen to learn and want to complete the whole course.

  • What formal entry requirements will I need?

    The minimum requirement is 4 GCSEs grades including English and Math at a minimum of grade E.

  • What could the course lead to in higher education or careers?

    On successful completion of this course you can progress to a level 1 course in January, choosing from the following options; - IT - Catering - Construction - Apprenticeship pathways

  • Are there any costs involved?

    You will need a memory stick to save your work on, portfolios, dividers and stationery will cost about £20.
