Children and Young People's Workforce - Early Years Educator Level 2 - Intermediate Apprenticeship

This is a full and relevant level 2 Diploma Apprenticeship, that will support you to develop the skills and knowledge required to work within the Early Years workforce. Your duties may include observations and planning children's activities, as well as ensuring they are well looked after, and that their developmental needs are met. Your role may also require you to help children to develop social and practical skills however exact duties will depend on your employer. Apprentices working in this industry will be working with children from the ages of birth to 5 years old.

  • What will I study and learn?

    You will study a full range of criteria to help babies and young children develop and learn and these will include; growth and development (linked to both theory and to the Early Years Foundation Stage), how to support transitions and how to meet all of the holistic needs of growing and developing young children.

  • How is the apprenticeship assessed?

    You will complete a portfolio of evidence towards qualification criteria and you will also be assessed within your work setting across the age ranges 0-2, 2-3 and 3-5 years. You will plan activities that will provide the basis for your assessments and you will also be involved in group and individual feedback, discussions and reflection..

  • What skills will I need for the apprenticeship?

    You will need to be organised, resourceful, motivated, and committed to supporting young children reach their full potential. You will also need to be able to take direction, as well as use your own initiative.

  • What formal entry requirements will I need?

    4 GCSEs at grade D/3 (including English at grade 3 or above) and/or CACHE Caring for Children Level 1 Diploma and/or CACHE Level 2 Certificate. Some experience of caring for young children such as babysitting is also required.

  • How will I be taught?

    This is a full and relevant Level 2 Diploma that is widely accepted within the Early Years Industry (in line with the ‘Statutory Guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework’ and the Department for Education’s requirements for this level). Should you wish to continue, you will be able to progress onto the Level 3 Technical Certificate/Diploma and then onto Higher Education.

  • What will this apprenticeship lead to in higher education or careers?

    You will be allocated an assessor whose role it is to evaluate your competency. When your assessor is satisfied that you have met all of the requirements for a unit they will confirm this by signing an evidence record sheet to show that the assessment is complete. The assessor will visit you in your work place on a regular basis. The apprenticeship is assessed by continuous assessment of practical, written and oral work, online testing, assessment in the workplace and through the production of a portfolio of work.

  • Are there any costs involved?

    You will need to purchase a course handbook to support your study (approximately £25 and further ISBN number will be given as part of your induction). You will also be required to purchase a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This currently costs approximately £46 and we would recommend that you then apply for the update service (which neds to be applied for within 2 weeks of your DBS check being returned to you). The annual cost for this is currently £13. All other related course costs are the responsibility of your employer (the setting/nursery).
