The four modules that make up this qualification are:

  • Business Awareness
  • Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements

  • Tax Processes for Business.

  • Entry requirements

To qualify for the level 3 diploma, you must have passed the level 2 certificate, either here or at another centre. You should feel confident with using numbers and have the ability to complete assessments and written projects in English.

In exceptional circumstances, you may be able to join the course if you have an alternative accounting qualification or extensive accounting experience in the workplace. In these circumstances, you will be required to attend an interview and carry out an assessment at college.

  • How it is taught

The teaching on this course will involve lectures, discussions and lots of worked examples. You will also spend time practising using a PC for various modules, eg Spreadsheets. Students will be expected to match the hours taught in the classroom with private study and to complete any homework set. There will be regular testing of knowledge in the classroom.

  • How it is assessed

All modules are assessed through computerized exams. Throughout the course your lecturer will record your progress and provide informal, regular feedback.

  • Skills gained

You will extend your bookkeeping skills to preparing extended trial balances using year-end adjustments as well as producing final accounts for sole traders, recording and analysing cost information, completing VAT Returns, presenting, formatting and publishing spreadsheet information and understanding and applying principles of ethical working.

  • Employment and progression opportunities

On completion of the level 3 diploma you would qualify to work as a cashier, credit controller or management accounts clerk. If you wanted to work in a professional accounting or commercial firm you might be employed as an audit clerk. Generally you should be able to progress to a more senior role within an accounts department having now gained proven experience, especially of adjustments to a trial balance and preparation of final accounts. You would also be ready to move on to the final stage - AAT Accounting Diploma Level 4 - which would enable you to become a full member of AAT.
