You will need to buy the relevant course books to use within the sessions and for revision at home; you should also have pen/pencil, paper and a calculator.
The course does require commitment (both inside and outside the College) and it is essential that you attend all teaching sessions. We expect you to take the exams as per the Scheme of Work provided by the lecturer.
The teaching on this course will involve lectures, discussions and lots of worked examples. You will also spend time practising using a PC for various modules, eg practise assessments. Students will be expected to match the hours taught in the classroom with private study and to complete any homework set. There will be regular testing of knowledge in the classroom.
Each module will be assessed through a computerised exam except for internal control and accounting systems which will be assessed as a computer-based project. Throughout the course your lecturer will record your progress and provide informal, regular feedback.
Once you've completed the course and are recognised as competent in all six modules, you'll be awarded the AAT Accounting Diploma Level 4. With proof of relevant work experience, perhaps gathered while you were training, you'll be able to apply to become a full member of AAT and use the letters MAAT after your name.
The final level covers higher level accounting tasks, including drafting financial statements, managing budgets and evaluating financial performance. You'll also have the opportunity to specialise in areas from tax and credit control.
As a qualified AAT Technician you can expect to be involved at a management or supervisory level within an accounts department. This qualification will also lead to exemptions at ACCA and CIMA and the non-graduate route to chartered accountancy.
