  • Expectations and attendance

The course does require commitment (both inside and outside the College) and it is essential that you attend all teaching sessions. We expect you to take the exams as per the Scheme of Work provided by the lecturer.

  • Entry requirements

To qualify for the level 3 diploma, you must have passed the level 2 certificate, either here or at another centre, have studied accounts before or been working within an accounts department. You should feel confident with using numbers and have the ability to complete assessments and written projects in English. The AAT has developed an online Skillcheck to test your accounting knowledge and, depending on your score, it will guide you towards the appropriate entry level. Visit Skillcheck on the AAT website.

  • How it is taught

The teaching on this course will involve lectures, discussions and lots of worked examples. You will also spend time practising using a PC for various modules, eg Spreadsheets. Students will be expected to match the hours taught in the classroom with private study and to complete any homework set. There will be regular testing of knowledge in the classroom.

  • How it is assessed

Each module will be assessed through a computerised exam except for Spreadsheets and Professional ethics, both of which will be assessed through computer-based projects. Throughout the course your lecturer will record your progress and provide informal, regular feedback

  • Skills gained

You will extend your bookkeeping skills to preparing extended trial balances using year-end adjustments as well as producing final accounts for sole traders, recording and analysing cost information, completing VAT Returns, presenting, formatting and publishing spreadsheet information and understanding and applying principles of ethical working.

  • Employment and progression opportunities

On completion of the level 3 diploma you would qualify to work as a cashier, credit controller or management accounts clerk. If you wanted to work in a professional accounting or commercial firm you might be employed as an audit clerk. Generally you should be able to progress to a more senior role within an accounts department having now gained proven experience, especially of adjustments to a trial balance and preparation of final accounts. You would also be ready to move on to the final stage - AAT Accounting Diploma Level 4 - which would enable you to become a full member of AAT.

  • How to apply

To enrol, please click the Add to Basket button at the top of the page. For more information, visit How to Enrol. Please note that your final acceptance on to the level 3 diploma will be subject to an interview, either by telephone or in person, and a Skillcheck assessment. Following your enrolment and within two weeks of the commencement of the course, you will be required to register as a member with AAT (if not already a member) or to ensure that your membership is up to date; you cannot proceed with the course unless you are an AAT member.
