Athletics Men’s and Women’s

The Athletics Academy is designed for aspiring athletes who would like to develop their skills and fulfil their potential in track and field events.

The athletes make regular use of the St Mary’s University College’s athletics track and Richmond Park for cross-country training.

Each athlete in the Academy receives approximately 6 hours of training per week delivered by a level 4 performance coach.

Typically, this would include a conditioning session, stretching and drills, plyometrics and weights. Academy athletes have taken part in the British Colleges Championships, the Middlesex Schools Cross Country Championships and the English Schools Cross Country Championships. In 2006 four Athletics Academy women made history, on the Oxford University track, winning the senior event at the Achilles Schools Relays. Not only were they the first team from a state academic institution to win the event – they were the first to even take part.

Past students who have reached the top include Stuart Hayes (Triathlon) currently ranked 30 in the world.

Entry Requirements:

Some experience of athletics preferably with a club or school
